- The North Shore LIJ MIS Fellowship Program was started in 2001 as one of 17 programs that constituted the Charter Group of the MIS Fellowship Council (now the MIS Council.)
- The program provides the most diverse exposure to all aspects of Minimally Invasive and Gastrointestinal Surgery possible. Bariatric, Oncologic, Colorectal, Esophageal, Solid Organ and Hernia surgery are represented almost equally at two tertiary hospitals during six two-month rotations.
- The fellowship currently comprises two positions, both of which are supported by industry grants.
- With the introduction of the Fellowship Match in 2003 we have had the good fortune of matching outstanding candidates who have significantly enriched our program.
