Bariatric Surgery
Since Bariatric Surgery is a high-risk procedure, the System’s bariatric surgeons compiled practice guidelines, endorsed by a member of American Society of Bariatric Surgeons (ASBS). The guidelines include criteria for who should have surgery, nutritional and psychological assessment, and specialty beds and equipment. North Shore Universtiy Hospital and Staten Island University Hospital are approved Centers of Excellence through the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). Most recently, Forest Hills Hospital received designation as a Center of Excellence by the American College of Surgeons.
