Centers of Excellence

A "Center of Excellence" designation demonstrates our commitment to you to provide exceptional care and achieve the best possible patient outcomes. Take a look at the numerous Centers of Excellence that have been established at North Shore-LIJ:

Neuroscience: In recognition of its nationally recognized expertise in the neurosciences, North Shore-LIJ has been designated a Neuroscience Center of Excellence, according to a recent national survey.

Stroke: All of the North Shore-LIJ hospitals are designated as Primary Stroke Centers by the New York State Department of Health (NYS DOH) and have submitted an annual review to continue their designation status.

Bariatric Surgery: North Shore University Hospital, Staten Island University Hospital, and Syosset Hospital are approved Centers of Excellence through the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). Most recently, Forest Hills Hospital received designation as a Center of Excellence by the American College of Surgeons.

Cancer Services: The American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer has granted approval awards to all North Shore-LIJ hospitals. By undertaking this evaluation, facilities demonstrate their commitment to quality care, ongoing improvement and public accountability for the care and services that they provide.

Nursing: Huntington Hospital is the first in Suffolk County to win the prestigious Magnet Award for Nursing Excellence. This designation, conferred by the American Nurses Association Credentialing Committee, indicates that a hospital meets the highest national standards for professional nursing practice.
