Measuring Care

North Shore-LIJ uses a series of well-established performance measures to demonstrate the quality of care we deliver to our patients and the communities we serve. As an organization we believe in transparency and in openly sharing our performance data with the public.

The links below will bring you directly to the quality reports for our hospitals as reported by national healthcare organizations such as the New York State Department of Health, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Joint Commission.

North Shore-LIJ hospitals provide some of New York State’s (NYS’s) best outcomes for percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) and cardiac surgery, according to reports by the NYS Department of Health. North Shore University Hospital had a significantly lower mortality rate than the statewide average, earning a double-star ranking for PCI (all cases). Lenox Hill Hospital received a double-star ranking for non-emergent PCI cases.
Long Island Jewish Medical Center had the lowest risk adjusted mortality rate (RAMR) in NYS for adult patients undergoing surgeries to repair or replace heart valves and for those in need of Valve/Coronary Artery Bypass Graft surgery. LIJMC’s RAMR was significantly lower than the statewide average earning a double-star ranking. Only one other hospital in NYS received this prestigious ranking. See graphics below for PCI and cardiac surgery outcomes for the North Shore-LIJ programs offering these services.
