Robotic Surgery at the North Shore-LIJ Health System

Robotic Surgeons at North Shore-LIJ Health System

Robotic surgery allows patients to experience less invasive surgical procedures — procedures that were once only possible with more traditional open surgery. The goal of North Shore-LIJ’s team of robotic surgeons and their supporting network of health care professionals is to continuously strive to reduce our patients' stay in the hospital, as well as to minimize the pain and scarring associated with surgery and facilitate faster recovery, a quicker return to normal activities and improved functional outcomes.

Robotic surgery reduces the surgeon's movements, which in turn reduces hand movements or tremors that might otherwise make the surgery less precise. Robotic instruments can also access hard-to-reach areas of the body more easily through smaller surgical cuts.

Recognized nationally and internationally for their pioneering work, the robotics-trained surgeons at North Shore-LIJ Health System are at the leading edge of robotic surgery using the state-of-the-art da Vinci® Robotic Surgery System.

Our trailblazing da-Vinci® robotic surgeons are taking minimally invasive surgery to a much higher level of precision and performance. Our goal is superior outcomes for our patients. From robotic heart bypass surgery and prostatectomy procedures to lung and obesity surgery, our robotic surgeons in specialties such as urology, pediatric urology, cardiovascular, thoracic, women's health and general surgery are proving that the future of robotic surgical procedures is here. Today.

North Shore-LIJ Health System Leads the Way in Robotic Surgery

  • The world-renowned robotic surgeons at the Smith Institute for Urology perform robotic urology surgery procedures for many urologic diseases and disorders and are leading the way in our region with such prodcedures as robotic cystectomy and neobladder formation, robotic pyeloplasty, robotic partial nephrectomy and robotic ureteral reimplantation.
  • The Women’s Health robotic surgery program at North Shore-LIJ Health System is one of the first programs in the Northeast to offer robotic gynecologic surgery to patients including robotic hysterectomy, myomectomy and correction of genital prolapse procedures.
  • The pediatric urology robotic surgery program at the Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York was among the first in New York to offer pyeloplasty, nephrectomy, ureteral reimplantation, urachal cystectomy, and Mitrofanoff and ACE procedures performed by a board certified pediatric urologic surgeon.
