Ultrafiltration

Kidney Ultrafiltration

Kidney ultrafiltration is a renal replacement therapy that removes excess water from patients suffering from acute kidney failure and recycles the cleaned blood back to the patient. Kidney ultrafiltration must be done regularly to control blood pressure and fluids effectively. This procedure is often used in combination with hemodialysis treatment. Slow continuous ultrafiltration, or SCUF-HD, is a slower form of ultrafiltration that is done in ICU settings for patients with renal failure.
