Couple Graced with Child after Nine Years
The expression, “It takes a village…,” usually refers to raising a child, but in my case it took a village for me just to have a child. I am forever grateful to all of the doctors, nurses and staff at the North Shore-LIJ Maternal-Fetal Medicine Program and the Diabetes in Pregnancy Program.
My husband and I had been trying to have a child for nine years. Unfortunately, we endured four late-term miscarriages. Determined to try one final time, I was referred to Dr. Victor Rosenberg at the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Program. He was wonderful! Dr. Rosenberg sent me to Dr. Michael Nimaroff who performed a special procedure called an abdominal cerclage, which helped me hold my baby to full term.
After recovering from that procedure, I started in the Diabetes in Pregnancy Program. My diabetes was managed, and I was cared for by Marie Frazzita who took such good care of me by emailing me daily, calling weekly, getting me set up with an insulin pump, and helping me keep my diabetes under control.
Six months ago, I gave birth to our beautiful son, Deegan. The staff of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Diabetes in Pregnancy made all the difference in making this pregnancy a success, and making sure my son arrived in the world a happy and healthy, beautiful boy. My husband and I will always be grateful to all of our “guardian angels” in the North Shore-LIJ Health System.
