Obstetrical Anesthesia

Having a baby is one of the most important times in your life. We recognize that your experience during this time is one that stays with you forever. To make the birth of your baby as enjoyable and as memorable as possible, we offer a variety of pain management options for the thousands of women delivering here each year.

Obstetric anesthesiologists provide pre- and post-operative anesthetic care for patients undergoing:

  • Labor and vaginal delivery
  • Cesarean section (emergency and elective)
  • Bilateral tubal ligation
  • Cervical cerclage
  • Cesarean hysterectomy
  • Other emergency obstetrical procedures

Obstetric anesthesiologists are available on Labor and Delivery at all times, every day of the week. They pride themselves on meeting the specific needs of each and every patient who requests their services.

Personalized Pain Management Choices

Requesting anesthesia to relieve pain during labor is a very personal and individualized decision that only a patient and her physician can make.

The chief of obstetrical anesthesia or a member of his team will see the patient in order to obtain a history, and then help them to make an informed decision regarding anesthesia. The anesthesiologist will take your personal preferences into consideration and then coordinate a pain management plan directly with your obstetrician.

We are committed to making your labor and delivery experience positive. Anything that we can do to assist you with your pain management needs will be done. Our goal is a healthy mother and baby.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact your obstetrician so that your individual needs can be properly addressed.
