Obstetrics (Maternity)

For women who are planning to become or already are pregnant, North Shore-LIJ Women’s Health Obstetrical (Maternity) services offer comprehensive prenatal and obstetrical care. Our care extends to women anticipating normal and high-risk pregnancies, as well as delivery.

Comprehensive Prenatal Care

Routine prenatal care is provided by a team of well-trained clinicians, which include board certified obstetricians who guide the pregnant woman and her family through each trimester of pregnancy.  A variety of services are available which may include genetic counseling, fetal monitoring, ultrasound and nutritional counseling. A strong emphasis is placed on patient education regarding pregnancy, delivery, breastfeeding and newborn care.

High-Risk Pregnancies

Our obstetricians are very experienced and regularly handle high-risk, complex pregnancies.

Ideally, care of a high-risk mother begins prior to pregnancy. Preconception counseling is offered to women who are older or have pre-existing medical conditions some of which may include diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension and neurological disorders.

The availability of specialists in maternal fetal medicine provide guidance when needed to help bring about the healthiest outcome for mother and baby. State-of-the-art diagnostic testing and monitoring equipment is used to observe the fetus’ health and growth.

Our affiliation with the Cohen Children’s Hospital provides patients with direct access to pediatric subspecialty services if needed.
