Dr. Shah Urges Women to Choose You!
Farmingdale, NY – The inaugural American Cancer Society (ACS) Choose You Luncheon, held at Carlyle on the Green in Farmingdale, N.Y got rave reviews from a crowd of over 165 attendees. The half day conference type event featured a morning full of educational workshops led by local leaders in their fields of expertise, culminating in a luncheon featuring keynote speaker Neeta M. Shah, MD FACP, vice president of Women’s Health Services of North Shore-LIJ Health System who presented “The Choice is Yours” encouraging the audience to choose healthy life style.
The Choose You Movement is a campaign that encourages women to put their health first and be healthy role models for those around them. One in three American women, 35 million in total, will get cancer in her lifetime. Plus, about 50% of all cancer deaths could be prevented if people avoid tobacco products, maintain a healthy weight through diet and regular exercise, and get recommended cancer screenings.
Keeping with the theme of Choose You, cancer survivor, Ivy Algazy, Choose You Luncheon Chair, spoke about the lessons she learned after being diagnosed and going through treatment for colon cancer and about the power of choice.
This event, the first for ACS nationally, drew the attention of Flo Bryan, Managing Director National Home Office ACS in Atlanta and Mari Carlesimo, Interim EVP NY Metro ACS who both spoke about the importance of this initiative and how lives can be changed and saved.
