Dr. Shah Visits the Nassau County Jail Teaching Women to Take Charge

East Meadow, NY - Neeta M. Shah, MD FACP, vice president, Women’s Health Services at the North Shore-LIJ Health System, was invited by the Nassau County Perinatal Network, working in partnership with the Department of Mental Health, to address women confined to the Nassau County Correctional Center and who are participating in the DART (Drug Alcohol Rehabilitation Treatment) program. The goal was to encourage this group of at-risk childbearing women to take charge of their health before they become pregnant.
Dr. Shah said “I was touched by this group of women and although incarcerated, wanting to take the opportunity to better themselves by attending this program and learning ways to take better care of themselves and their families.”
