Neeta Shah, MD, vice president of women’s health services for the North Shore-LIJ Health System, has been named one of the 50 most influential women in Long Island business by Long Island Business News. The award, which recognizes the Island’s top women professionals for business acumen, mentoring and community involvement was presented to Dr. Shah for her leadership and commitment in the field of health care.
Appropriately for Dr. Shah, the award came during National Women’s Health Week (May 10-16). During Women’s Health Week, Dr. Shah worked with the US Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Women’s Health, spearheading a regional awareness campaign that highlighted women’s health and the importance of regular checkups. Dr. Shah encouraged women to take the “Checkup Pledge” reaching thousands of women who made a personal commitment to “Check in and Checkup." She was instrumental in both the passing of a Suffolk County law which supports an annual Women’s Health Week and Checkup Day and in the signing of a proclamation by Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi declaring Nassau Women’s Health Week and Checkup Day.
