Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery

The Division of Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery offers patients state-of-the-art technology delivered by the hands of experience. Our surgeons are pioneers in the field of minimally invasive and robotic surgery, providing the highest level of technology and techniques for all our patients’ surgical and medical needs.

Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) is any technique involved in surgery that does not require a large incision. Instead, small incisions, highly specialized equipment and tiny cameras or scopes are used to see inside the body and aid the surgeon during the operation.

Not all conditions are suitable for minimally invasive or robotic surgery. When it can be used, a minimally invasive approach allows the patient to recuperate faster with less pain. When compared to traditional open surgery, the benefits of a minimally invasive approach include:

  • Shortened hospital stay
  • Decreased postoperative pain
  • Less need for medication
  • Improved cosmetic results
  • Rapid return to normal activities

North Shore-LIJ surgeons from the divisions of Gynecology , Gynecologic Oncology , Urogynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology are trained in all of the latest minimally invasive techniques, including robotic surgery and single-incision surgery.  Our surgeons are sought after to train colleagues from all over the country in the latest minimally invasive surgical technique. In addition, fellowship programs in urogynecology and in minimally invasive and robotic gynecology are offered to train future subspecialty surgeons.

Our goal is getting our patients back to their pre-surgical pace without compromise to the care given. We offer comprehensive treatment for the entire range of patient issues. From social work to home care to evening appointments, we strive to encompass the entire scope of services our patients need and deserve.
