Commission on Cancer Accreditation: Staten Island University Hospital

The Commission on Cancer (CoC) accreditation recognizes the quality of comprehensive cancer care available at a facility and means that patients have access to the full scope of services required to diagnose, treat, rehabilitate and support patients with cancer and their families. Staten Island University Hospital Sanford R. Nalitt Institute for Cancer and Blood Related Diseases has an academic comprehensive cancer program; continuously accredited since 1969.The Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons recognizes cancer programs that strive for excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients with its Outstanding Achievement Award (2011).

Accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons, is only given to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance. Long Island Jewish Medical Center has been given this accreditation.

Human Rights Campaign Foundation Leader in LGBT Healthcare Equality - Lenox Hill Hospital

Lenox Hill Hospital has been recognized as a “Leader in LGBT Healthcare Equality” in the Healthcare Equity Index 2013. This annual survey is conducted by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation, the educational arm of the country’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) organization. Lenox Hill Hospital has earned top marks for its commitment to equitable, inclusive care for LGBT patients and their families, who can face significant challenges and barriers in securing quality healthcare.

American College of Radiology Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence™

North Shore-LIJ Imaging became the first in New York state and the seventh in the country to be designated a Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence™ by the American College of Radiology (ACR). North Shore-LIJ received the prestigious, three-year distinction for its best quality imaging practices and diagnostic care across its hospitals and outpatient imaging facilities.

Huntington Hospital has been designated as an Academic Center of Excellence for minimally invasive surgery in gynecologic oncology and gynecology by the American Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery (AIMIS).

This distinction is awarded to teaching hospitals that meet the highest standards of quality and safety for minimally invasive surgery.
