Center for AIDS Research and Treatment
The Center for AIDS Research and Treatment is the largest New York State-designated AIDS Center on Long Island, providing primary care to over 800 HIV-infected individuals. Here, a Board Certified Infectious Disease specialist and nurse-case manager are assigned to each patient, consistently rendering the highest possible quality of care. Clinics are held Monday through Friday. Round the clock service is provided for both emergency room visits and in-patient management of more severe disease.
Obstetrical services allow infected mothers to deliver healthy virus-free children; surgical services provide comprehensive surgical care. Advanced dental care is also available. Our laboratory is equipped with the most modern technologies, supporting patients back to health, while active clinical trials provide the newest medicines, vaccines and state-of-the-art treatments. Extensive psychosocial and adherence programs supplement primary care to help patients achieve emotional control over their disease while assuring proper use of medications. The ability to achieve complete suppression of HIV has dramatically changed the outcome of this once fatal infection. Patients participating in our comprehensive AIDS program can be expected to lead full, productive and healthy lives.
The Center for AIDS Research and Treatment is dedicated to providing the highest standards of healthcare to you, our patient.
The Division of Infectious Diseases provides over 2,000 consultations each year for patients with brain, lung, heart, intestinal, blood, skin and soft tissue infections, supporting the numerous medical programs at NSUH. Our expertise in management of operative infections facilitates successful recovery from complex cardiac, orthopedic, abdominal, thoracic, and gynecological surgery. We monitor and control infections in bone marrow transplant and immune-compromised patients undergoing cancer treatment, allowing patients to achieve successful remission from their disease. Additionally, our expertise in the management of systemic insect and animal-borne diseases is vitally important to the Long Island community.
The Division also provides leadership for the infection control activities of North Shore University Hospital, as well as Plainview Hospital, Glen Cove Hospital, Forest Hills Hospital, Syosset Hospital and the Center for Extended Care and Rehabilitation. All policies and procedures for these areas are coordinated through the Division.
Positive Outreach With Integrated Resources for individuals infected or affected by HIV/AIDS spanning all age groups.
The P.O.W.I.R program provides options for children, teens and women who are HIV+, or at risk, and are not in care. Our goal is to improve access to medical care, research, and support services throughout Queens and Nassau Counties.
The P.O.W.I.R. program has an on-site community liaison, outreach social worker and peer educator to assist with navigating a comprehensive system of care.
