Center for Hearing and Balance Disorders
The Center for Hearing and Balance Disorders at the New York Head and Neck Institute is made up of a talented group of highly regarded physicians who use the most modern technology and techniques for the diagnosis and treatment of ear disorders (otology). Highly skilled otologists work with other skilled professionals in the evaluation of hearing, fitting of hearing aids and testing of balance. In addition, speech-language pathologists aid in the rehabilitation of speech in profoundly deaf individuals.
Ear problems treated at the center range from simple infections of the ear canal (swimmer's ear) to tumors of the nerve. Treatments for these conditions vary. Some require the use of sophisticated computerized instruments to localize the cause and location of a hearing loss or balance disorders. Others require cochlear implants, which restore hearing to the deaf.
The center offers patients one location for the diagnosis and treatment of the many diseases and functional disorders of the ear. The team members also provide patients with the seamless input of several highly trained professionals to rapidly address and solve ear problems.
