Department of Psychiatry at Lenox Hill Hospital
The Lenox Hill Hospital Department of Psychiatry is an academically oriented clinical department which provides comprehensive inpatient and ambulatory psychiatric services for both adults and children. Services include:
- A 27-bed Adult General Psychiatry Inpatient Unit
- The Outpatient Center for Mental Health
- Child and adolescent psychiatry outpatient services
- The Center for Attention and Learning
- Inpatient and Ambulatory ECT Programs
- Psychiatry consultation-liaison service
- Emergency department psychiatric consultation service
The department sponsors numerous educational and training programs in psychiatry and psychology, and is a major teaching affiliate of New York Medical College. The department is particularly well known for treatment of first-episode psychosis, schizophrenia, treatment-resistant mood disorders, geriatric psychiatry, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and learning disorders. The team is also dedicated to public health education in psychiatry and community outreach.
Staffed by experienced mental health professionals, the unit provides individual attention to each patient's unique needs. There is a high staff-to-patient ratio on all shifts and nurses are assigned to individual patients to assure continuity of care. Patients and families are an active part of the treatment and recovery process. The mental health experts at Lenox Hill Hospital focus on a rapid return to recovery and discharge to an outpatient setting, as well as communicate with outpatient providers to assure comprehensive continuity of care.
The department participates in the full range of indemnity and managed care insurance payors. The staff is experienced in pre-certification and re-certification procedures for inpatient treatment.
Located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Lenox Hill Hospital's Outpatient Center for Mental Health serves as a comprehensive diagnostic assessment center. The center's private practice-like setting provides a full range of treatment interventions, including clinical programs to assist private providers who wish to have their patients receive other/adjunctive services, i.e., individual therapies, couples/family therapy, group therapy, or psychopharmacologic treatment.
An important community resource, the Outpatient Center for Mental Health responds with new and innovative programs as the needs of patients evolve.
