Our mission

The Florence and Robert A. Rosen Family Wellness Center is dedicated to enhancing the well being of law enforcement and military personnel, and their families, living on Long Island and in the New York metropolitan region.  The Rosen Family Wellness Center serves:

  • Local, state and federal law enforcement officers and their families
  • Active duty military personnel and their families
  • Members of the Reserves, Naval Militia, National Guard and Service Academies, and their families.
  • Veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom/Enduring Iraqi Freedom, Desert Storm, other qualified veterans, and veterans' family members

 

Why the Rosen Center is needed by our community

Law enforcement and military personnel and their families have unique needs based on their occupations and experiences. The staff at the Rosen Center is experienced in dealing with the issues specific to these groups. Law enforcement and military personnel and their families have unique needs based on their occupations and experiences. The staff at the Rosen Center are experienced in dealing with the issues specific to these groups. 

Some of the issues these personnel and their families face are:

  • Long-term exposure to stressful or traumatic events as a result of law enforcement or deployment duties
  • Fear for the safety of their loved one who's a member of local law enforcement and first responder to terrorist threats
  • Rotating shifts, weekend and holiday work law enforcement personnel do can cause stress on families
  • Fear for the safety of loved ones deployed overseas
  • Prolonged separation for those deployed overseas
  • Reintegration of families after a long deployment
  • Limited social support for reservists and their families due to reduced availability of military bases

Our services

  • No cost, confidential assessments and treatment
  • Individual, couples, and family psychotherapy for children, adolescents and adults
  • Psychiatric evaluations
  • Neuropsychological assessments
  • Medication management
  • Metric-based clinical outcomes assessment
  • Adult wellness and health workshops
  • Parenting and child resilience workshops
  • Training for healthcare professionals
  • Referrals for physical and specialized longer-term behavioral health care
  • Outreach, presentations, consultation, and crisis counseling for military and law enforcement agencies
  • Joint programs with other health care organizations and health systems
  • Research

We specialize in evidence-based cognitive behavioral therapies including:

  • Trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy
  • Cognitive processing therapy
  • Cognitive-behavioral conjoint therapy for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Prolonged exposure therapy

Free adult wellness and health workshops

These free workshops are designed to help promote overall health and reduce stress, and include the following:

  • Stress reduction techniques
  • Effective treatment for tobacco use, and screenings for alcohol and substance use
  • Wellness workshops (e.g., nutrition, sleep, exercise, weight loss)
  • Health screenings and referrals for additional or specialized services
  • How to increase workplace and job effectiveness
  • Workshops may include childcare and refreshments
     

Confidential counseling and related services

The center provides confidential adult, child, and family counseling and treatment services at no cost to help manage problems such as stress, relationship difficulties, anger, anxiety and depression.

Free parenting and child resilience workshops

  • These workshops will help families build their resilience skills in order to make their families stronger.
  • Workshops will help parents learn more about child development, effective parenting and increasing the resilience of children
  • Workshops will also focus on supporting children and families facing stresses related to military or law enforcement duty

The Family and Professional Resource Center

Information and referral resources are available pertaining to wellness, other physical and mental health needs, entitlements, advocacy and other community supports for federal, state and local law enforcement personnel, military personnel and their families.

Partnership with Give an Hour™

Give an Hour is a nonprofit 501(c)(3), founded in September 2005 by Dr. Barbara Van Dahlen Romberg, a psychologist in the Washington, D.C., area. The organization’s mission is to develop national networks of volunteers capable of responding to both acute and chronic conditions that arise within our society. Currently, GAH is dedicated to meeting the mental health needs of the troops and families affected by the ongoing conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Give an Hour has providers across the nation—in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico—and continues to recruit volunteer mental health professionals to its network.
