Zucker Hilside Hosptial offers a wide range of inpatient and outpatient treatments for adults, children, and geriatric pateints. Inpatient services include adolescent, adult and geriatric units. Treatment specialties include early phase treatment, depression, schizophrenia, bipolar and personality disorders, as well as a discreet women’s unit. The National Institute of Mental Health has established a Clinical Research Center for the Study of Schizophrenia at The Zucker Hillside Hospital, one of only four such facilities nationwide.
Our outpatient programs serve all ages and encompass the full continuum of care. These services include health centers, partial hospital and continuing day treatment programs and a full range of psychiatric rehabilitation services. Programs for alcohol and chemical dependency are available both on our main campus and in numerous community-based sites.
Our goal at The Zucker Hillside Hospital is to promote wellness and reintegration of patients back into the community to work, attend school, socialize and live independently.
The Geriatric Psychiatry Inpatient Service
This unit is staffed by a multidisciplinary behavioral health team with special gerontological expertise. Patient populations include elders with late-life depression, psychotic disorders, Alzheimer's disease or a related dementing condition with concomitant serious behavioral disturbances such as agitation, aggression, paranoia, and mood abnormalities, and medical/neurological illnesses with psychiatric symptom expression. The units have been developed with unique geriatric-related accoutrements that facilitate optimal care, including selected private rooms.
Early Episode/Young Adult Unit
Provides an environment for the care of patients with first and early episode major psychiatric illnesses (psychotic and affective disorders), as well as patients who present with complex diagnostic and/or treatment issues earl in the course of the illness. By incorporating the expertise and resources of the Division of Research at Zucker Hillside Hospital, we provide comprehensive evidence-based systematic and innovative assessment and treatment of our patients.
This until also serves patients for the Behavioral Health College Partnership, an innovative program that provides a collaborative approach for treatment to regional college students.
The Adult Affective Disorders Unit
This unit provides an environment for the care of patients with serious affective disorders, including major depression, psychotic depression, and bipolar disorder. This program serves adult patients with onset off illness occurring in mid-life, as well as those with recurrent and treatment refractory conditions. This inpatient service provides short-term acute care, psychopharmacology, multidisciplinary care approach, individual treatment planning, psychoeducation, family collaboration, vocational services and planning.
The Women’s Unit
This short-term acute care 19-bed unit is dedicated to the treatment of women 18 and older with psychiatric disorders of sufficient severity to warrant hospitalization. This single gender unit has specialized tracks, including a program for perinatal disorders (postpartum depression) and a program based on dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) for women with borderline personality disorder.
The Adolescent Inpatient Unit
On this 21-bed unit, patients 13-17 years of age whose problems require more intensive treatment that can be provided on an outpatient basis are treated. Services include comprehensive assessment and brief treatment of a variety of psychiatric disorders including: Anxiety disorders, ADHD and other disruptive behavior disorders, major depression, bipolar and psychotic disorders. Support and psychoeducation is provided to families and others involved in the child’s care.
