All members of the anesthesia care team have extensive training and experience. For example:
- Anesthesiologists complete four years of residency training in anesthesiology after medical school and often take additional fellowship training in a subspecialty discipline.
- Certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNA) have a bachelor’s degree in nursing, critical care experience and two years of training in anesthesiology.
Most of North Shore-LIJ’s anesthesiologists and CRNAs are employed by North American Partners in Anesthesia (NAPA), which is the largest anesthesia group in the U.S. Nurse practitioners, physician’s assistants and anesthesia technicians have training and accreditation in their specific discipline.
The team’s focus is simple: to provide a safe and comfortable environment for patients undergoing potentially stressful procedures at North Shore-LIJ Health System.
