Overview

The breast pathology division of the North Shore-LIJ Department of Pathology provides fast and accurate interpretation of breast core biopsies, resection specimens, and offers second opinions. We also perform image analysis of estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor and other prognostic markers of breast cancer. 

Experience

The breast pathology services offered reflects many years of cumulative experience in the field. Our division handles a large number of breast cases, one of the highest in the New York metro-area and Long Island.

We emphasize a multidisciplinary approach to the care of patients with breast disease and work closely with breast surgeons, radiologists, medical oncologists and radiation oncologists. We offer expert consultations for cross-specialty conditions to collaborate on diagnosis for complex cases.

Timely results

We diagnose most specimens within 24 hours after receipt of the core biopsy samples. Reports are sent by courier or mail, fax, or electronic submission.

Special services

Our comprehensive immunohistochemsitory lab provides study of ER/PR, HER-2 over expression and proliferation index. Our molecular lab performs CISH study for HER-2 over expression.
