Hepatobiliary Surgery

Hepatobiliary surgery treatments encompass treatments for the liver, bile ducts and gallbladder. Hepatobiliary surgeons treat a variety of conditions including:

  • Liver cancer
  • Liver abscesses and benign tumors
  • Bile duct cancer
  • Gallbladder cancer
  • Cysts of the bile ducts, liver and pancreas
  • Focal nodular hyperplasia
  • Hemangioma
  • Injury to the liver or bile ducts
  • Cirrhosis of the liver
  • Liver failure

One hepatobiliary surgery treatment commonly performed is liver resection. This procedure is a treatment for liver cancer that involves removing the part of the liver containing cancer along with some healthy liver tissue on either side. In some cases, the gallbladder is also removed during liver resection.
